The good thing is that I made a point of leaving my computer home over the weekend and took my art supplies. I managed to finish the BTS page I was working on and have spent today after work on a new page. Good progress.

Todays picture is taken from The Voices of the Civil War book on the US Civil War battle of Chattanooga. I included this picture to let folks understand the scale of the line battles in the number of men involved. This is a Brigade. If you return to the previous page you will remember that the brigade in Ayer terms is 4 regiments which is 4 companies. This is the Smallest unit of men that would be maneuvered by a general. At Fredricksberg, nine of these were thrown at the Stone wall and were destroyed. The scale of carnage in these battles is staggering to think of.

You will notice the battle lines drawn up by regiment. Thad and Ben are fond in the line. Before the line you see the skirmishers, which is Sharl and Tannets job. I find it sobering to think that the men of the time were able to stand with a line like this leveled at you and firing in volley. I suppose this is the reason I find the periods warfare facinating and why I am writing this tale. The story of these men and the reasons they fought.
